Tom grew up in New York on Long Island. Throughout high school, Tom spent his summers working for a tree service learning every part of the business; from groundwork to rigging.
In 1989, Tom wanted to challenge himself by joining the Navy and attempting to become a member of an elite Naval Special Operations Unit, the United States Navy Seals. Tom successfully completed training in November 1991 with class number 178. He remained with the U.S. Navy Seals until 1997. While stationed at Little Creek Virginia with Seal Delivery Vehicle Team 2, Tom started a small part-time business of trimming, pruning and removing trees. It did not take long for people to recognize his professional attitude and no-nonsense work ethic. Torn between remaining with the Seals or taking on his own company full-time, Tom chose the path of his tree company and his business grew year after year.
Poor Folks Tree Service, Inc constantly seeks to improve its efficiency and remain current with the latest techniques. As an ISA-certified arborist, Tom knows there’s more to owning this company than just cutting down trees.
